Evolution: buds to blooms

Joan Boxall: The Evolution of a Writer

A love of language and the outdoors in British Columbia led to a bachelor’s degree in physical education (BPE) with English and French majors from the University of British Columbia (UBC).  A thirty-year teaching practice followed.

From a first teaching job in Cranbrook, BC to Delta, BC (English, French and physed) to Vancouver and North Vancouver (Adult English as a Second Language), the craft of teaching, like writing, is an evolution.

UBC French  language and literature courses led to a summer immersion at Pearson College of the Pacific on Vancouver Island, to Quimper, France and  Trois Pistoles, Quebec where Joan won ‘Le Prix du President’ (The President’s Cup) for language proficiency and community involvement: organizing a Terry Fox Run, singing with the community chorale and performing at a local radio station.

Joan self-published a cd of songs entitled ‘Joan’s Jam’. The compilation is a mix of Canadian folksongs, children’s songs, and her own songs/poems.

With https://www.espirituvocalensemble.ca/ and Pandora’s Vox Vocal Ensemble, Joan has performed a wide choral repertoire since 1990.

A 1500-meter runner and U.B.C. Sports Hall of Fame inductee (1972-73 Track Team), Joan’s love of movement, music, literature, travel and a healthy lifestyle thread her tapestry.

She wrties active travel tales with Inspired 55+ Lifestyle Magazine.
